MAINE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP NETWORK

The Maine School Leadership Network (MSLN) was a two-year school-based leadership development program for teachers, principals and other educators from 38 school districts, designed to help schools identify and "grow" their own leaders. From 2000-2004, 90 educators statewide participated in this alternative professional development approach, focusing on improving student learning and building leadership. Cohorts were located in Eastern Maine, Mid-Coast Maine and Southern Maine.

New cohorts begin in the spring, with application deadlines in early March. Participants can earn 15 graduate credits toward a master’s degree or Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership at either the University of Maine or the University of Southern Maine.

The MSLN was a project of the Maine Leadership Consortium and the UMaine College of Education and Human Development, with early support from the Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education and the Maine Development Foundation (MDF). In May 2002, administration of the Network transferred from the MDF to the Leadership Consortium and the College.

The MSLN model is the basis of the staff's ongoing work with leadership teams, from schools, as a part of the Great Maine School Project , school teams, any members of Team Leadership that collabortes that multiregionally, develop action plans for school improvement (similar to SAPPs) and team development plan (similar to LDPs), and have facilitators/coaches who were staff members of MSLN.

The MSLN model is the basis of the Master's/Cohort/CAS program of the University of Maine.
