What job doest thou future hold??

It is part of a twelve week exploratory class called Pathways, an integrated career education/computer technology class. The webquest could probably be used over a span of sixth to ninth grades. Maine Learning Results Standards:
You will need the equivilent of 6 - 8 forty minute classes to complete this webquest. The guide sheets for making the brochure are written for AppleWorks. If you are using a different piece of software to make your brochure please get together the appropriate guide sheets for your students to use. Reading levels may need to be addressed with some of these sites. For example, the Career Interests Game has vocabulary suited well for the middle schooler, but when you click on related jobs the database which you are directed to is very wordy, and geared more for high school. For middle schoolers, I recommend looking at Kiwi Careers and the Career Zone when researching information about jobs. For students with difficulty reading you may want to see if your computer has text to speech software. On the MacIntosh there is a piece of software called TextEdit. Students can copy and paste text onto a TextEdit file, choose Edit --> Speech --> Start Speaking in order to hear what is written. It would be wise to have a few earphones kicking around for this. Some sites may take them to an area to register for additional information. They DO NOT need to do this. They can get the information they need without registering for anything. Have fun! |
