Step 1: Crop, Rotate and Scale

Your first step is to crop, scale and rotate the image to meet the needs of its intended purpose. Cropping gets rid of any image you aren't going to be using. Rotating lets you straighten the image. Scaling the image sets the size to match the destination of the image. You can do all three using the Crop tool.

Step 1. Click the Crop Tool in the Toolbar
Step 2: Set the width, height and resolution in the Options bar to match the target size of the image. If you don't know what the target size is, leave these fields blank.
Step 3: Click and drag over the image with the Crop tool.

Don't worry if you don't get it exactly right the first time. You can adjust the size and shape by dragging on the control handles, the small squares located in the corners and on the sides of the crop box.

The shaded area indicates what will be cropped out.

Reposition the crop box by dragging inside it.

Rotate while cropping by placing the cursor outside the crop box and dragging.

Hit return/enter or double-click inside the crop box to apply the crop. Hit esc (escape) to close the crop box without applying the crop.

NOTE: If the image needs to be rotated by more than 89°, you will need to use the Image: Rotate Canvas command. The image can be resized at any time using the Image: Image Size command.
